answer of Mr Figaro [not real name]

I let my students decipher or fugure (typo) out the title of the poem. It is a Korean type of poem under the genre of sijo [pronounced, sidzou]   The Tree of Unhappiness by Kim Sang-yong and translated by Graeme Wilson]

I yada the words, I say the piece, I speak and they open their minds and imagine.

                     On broad leaves of pau-low-nia
                     The one and only tree
Whereon the phoenix will set foot....

My students have interesting answers:

  1.  Tree of Life
  2.   Love
  3.   Tree of Poetry
  4.   Tree of Broad
  5.   God (answer of Peter)
  6.  Life, the tree has many memories

The best answer: Tree of Mr. Jabines

"soldier" as in combat as in batt com

class, correction, excuse me, that is not /soul/ + /dyEr/. do you mean /soul....dyEr...two sad yEr?/

just do this for an effective remembrance for that word: sol....sol....sol (as in musical notes) AND jer...jer...jer (it is too late for me to undo; i later found out that it has a sexual value here in the local dialect)

word for today

verbiage. like, cabbage--sounds like---or entourage (no, im wrong! verbiage is /virbiedj/ while entourage is /AHN turazh/ ---my IPA career is imminently doomed with forever suffering with cortisol levels shooting high up to mainland China!!!!)

I have heard that when I was still in grade school...then into high school (from Nancy Drew stories?? I doubt it!)... please, say it aloud and it is helpful during spelling bees!

once again: vvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrbbbbiaaaaaaaaaggggggggge!

décalage

asked by lizzie. from her Psychology subject.

pronounced as /DAY ka lazh/ ---- and NOT /dE ka lidge/. This is due to its French etymology or origin.

Both Lizzie and I have said the word many times. We competed against the whirring sound of the old electric fan atop the counter. whirrrrr /day ka lazh/ whirrrrrr /day ka lazh/ whiirrrrrr tweeeeet (the bird outside made a scene. as in eksena kaayo!)
